    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. What is a boat part exchange scheme?

Our part exchange scheme allows you to trade in your current boat as part payment towards another boat listed for sale with Lakeland Leisure Boat Sales. It’s a quicker, simpler alternative to selling privately.

    2. What types of boats can I part exchange?

We consider a wide range of vessels including narrowboats, widebeams and river cruisers. If you're unsure whether your boat qualifies, simply get in touch and we’ll advise.

    3. Does the new boat have to be one listed with Lakeland Leisure Boat Sales?

Yes. To qualify for part exchange, the boat you wish to purchase must currently be listed for sale at one of our marinas or on our brokerage.

    4. How is my boat valued?

We carry out a professional valuation based on age and condition, build quality and specification, engine hours and service history, market demand, and comparable boats currently for sale. Our aim is to offer a fair, competitive figure based on current market conditions.

    5. Do I need a recent survey before part exchanging?

Not always. We will assess your boat as part of our valuation process. However, if there are known structural issues or major works required, we may request additional information.

    6. How long does the part exchange process take?

Once you’ve chosen your new boat, the process can move quickly - often significantly faster than selling privately. Timescales depend on valuation, acceptance, and handover arrangements, but we aim to keep everything smooth and efficient.

    7. Can I part exchange if I still have finance outstanding on my boat?

Yes, in many cases this is possible. Any outstanding finance would need to be settled as part of the agreement. Speak to our team and we’ll guide you through the process.

    8. What happens if my boat is worth less than the one I’m buying?

You simply pay the difference between the agreed part exchange value and the purchase price of your new boat.

    9. What happens if my boat is worth more than the one I’m buying?

In most cases, part exchange is used toward a higher-value purchase. If your boat’s value exceeds the purchase price, speak to us to discuss the available options.

    10. Do I need to deliver my boat?

Yes. Once the offer is accepted, you will arrange delivery of your boat to the agreed Lakeland Leisure marina. Our team will confirm handover details and timings.

    11. Is part exchange better than selling privately?

Part exchange offers: no advertising costs, no waiting for buyers, no time-wasters, no separate sale and purchase chains, and a faster, more secure upgrade process. It’s ideal if you’ve already found the boat you want and would prefer a straightforward transition.

    12. Is there any obligation when I request a valuation?

No - requesting a valuation does not commit you to proceeding. It simply allows you to explore your upgrade options with confidence.
