    A Guide To RIB Boats

    DEG Capelli Tempest 01

What are the main uses of RIBs?

What makes RIBs so popular is how versatile they are. They're great for fishing, diving, racing and everything else you need them to do with ease and convenience.

    DEG Capelli Tempest 05

    Are RIBs cheap?

Inflatable boats all vary in price based on their size, style, condition and age. Research what you want to buy and remember that the cost of a RIB will depend on all those factors too.

    DEG Rebel Riot 07

What are the estimated costs of owning an inflatable RIB?

Boats are an expensive investment, and you'll have to pay more than just the initial price. Make sure you know if you want a petrol-powered boat or a diesel powered one, because they typically cost more in maintenance. Diesel powered boats cost more due to being more fuel efficient, but don't require as much maintenance.

    DEG Capelli Tempest 11

What type of engine is best for my RIB?

When it comes to RIBs, it's important to weigh up all your options and make the right choice for you. We'd recommend going for an outboard engine because they're safer and offer better speeds and control. Petrol powered boats are quicker than diesel ones, so this is another plus point!

    DEG Capelli Tempest 04

What style of RIB should you buy?

An inflatable keel boat has a tough fabric bottom and a wood insert floor. That makes it more rigid and provides the user with the strength they need for all kinds of water. These are perfect for when you want a boat that is easy to assemble and disassemble each year.

    Fiberglass hull tenders
are a slicker finish and they're also easier to fix when there is a minor accident. Plus, these tenders offer more space for you to store things in because of the console ribs. These boats also produce less noise while they're operating in comparison to some of the other styles.

    Aluminium floor boats
are becoming more and more mainstream. They provide a super rigid floor, while also saving a lot of weight and they can be easily carried by 3 people. The aluminium tubing is glued together with the lightweight aluminium panels and the whole thing is covered with PVC (it's waterproof).

Is buying a used yacht a good idea?

Yes! Yachts aren't cheap, and buying a used boat can be a great way to start. It's a smart financial move and you'll be able to customise the boat, so it fits your tastes perfectly.

Yacht maintenance can be a costly affair and is often 10% of the value of your yacht each year. You could save a lot by buying a used yacht without major quality issues that's still in good condition.

    Speed Boats For Sale

    High Performance Boats For Sale

    DEG G25

What are the main uses of speed boats?

Owning a speed boat means you have instant access to so many potential activities that are easily accessible from the water. You'll be able to fish, water ski, swim and much more. Speed boats are usually 14-24ft long and great for shallow waters. If you're after an easy-to-move vessel for your relaxation and leisure time, look no further than a speedboat. They're perfect for the job.

    315 20 19

    Are speed boats cheap?

When buying a speedboat it really is advantageous to ensure you have all your ducks in a row before going through with the purchase. Some of the aspects that need to be considered are style, design and size, but additional costs such as fuel, insurance and berthing are also likely factors. On average the price for a speedboat will range between £15-50k+. Inboard boats are faster in speed, but a bit more expensive. They're considered more "high-maintenance" boats to run and it's worth considering your lifestyle before investing in one.

DEG Sea ray 175 Lowres 001

    Makes of speed boats

When it comes to choosing between a speedboat and a luxury yacht, you need to think about what your needs are and the type of experience you want. For example, inflatable speedboats are much cheaper but can't carry as much as some larger vessels with jetskis & large engines. The size, type of engine and conditions of the water all play an important part. Smaller outboard speed boats can reach speeds of up to 30 mph while larger inboard speed boats can reach speeds of 50 mph or more.

    DEG 315 14 13

What types of engines power high performance speed boats?

There are two main types of engines speed boats can have: inboard or outboard engines. Inboard speed boats are super quick compared to outboards. If high speed is essential to you, consider an inboard. However, consider that inboard speed boats tend to be more expensive because they are more challenging to maintain. Additionally, there are fewer manufacturers who produce the parts you need, so your options can be limited.

    Types of motor boats

Because of their special equipment and high-performance engine, bass boats are quite expensive and have a low freeboard and flat deck. They are used for freshwater fishing.

Bay boats are constructed from fibreglass and are suited for shallow water and sandy shores.

A bowrider is a type of boat that has an open bow area with a sitting area inside. They make great family boats as well as being suitable for fishing and watersports. If you're new to cruising or preparing for your first sea trip, bowriders are a good option.

Because of their open design, centre console boats have their steering wheel and navigation system in the middle, where fishermen can walk across the deck.

Cruisers have a small cabin in the bow, usually for sleeping accommodations. They are typically large enough to provide room for a small kitchen and several beds.

    DEG 71276 1900x1080 0

Cuddy cabin boats have a small cabin and a seating area in their bow.

Deck boats provide a lot of speed thanks to their wide beam and V-shaped design. Families and couples can enjoy recreation on the open deck.

A high-performance boat is built with weight proportions to give greater speed. Cabins and seats are available for 2-6 passengers. These high-performance motorboats are suitable for racing or fast travelling.

Jet boats replace their propellers with a single or multiple jet propulsion systems, making them very agile and well-suited for watersports.

Runabout boats are small multi-purpose powerboats, ideal for watersports or fishing.

    Are motor boats cheap?

Prices for motor boats are very variable. You can purchase a motor boat for as little as a few thousand pounds or as much as several million pounds.

    LLE DEG 00467

The characteristics of a motor boat

Motor boats are exclusively powerd by petrol or diesel inboard engines. They vary in size from tiny vessels that can carry a single person to 100-foot seagoing vessels. Sleeping quarters are typically included on motorboats for a maximum of six people.

    LLE DEG 00410

What type should you buy, motor boat, motor yacht or motor cruiser?

All three of those actually mean the same thing, whether you're looking for a motorboat, motor yacht, or motor cruiser for sale. It just depends on what country you're in.

What type of engine is best for my motor boat?

Your yacht can be powered by either a diesel or a petrol engine. There are both positive and negative aspects to each type. A petrol engine is less fuel efficient than a diesel one, but they are faster and generally requires more maintenance parts (such as spark plugs, HT leads, etc.). A diesel engine, on the other hand, usually requires less maintenance. Consider the speed of petrol engines as well when looking for a boat for sale.

The first thing you need to decide is how much you want to spend on a motor boat

When you're new, you may want to start out small and buy something inexpensive and easy to manage, a boat between 25 and 30 feet would be suitable. You must also take into account that purchasing a motorboat doesn't just end with the purchase price; there are also all the on-going expenses to think about such as mooring fees, running costs (such as fuel prices), and maintenance costs. On average, you'll spend at least 10% of the purchase price each year to operate your boat.

    LLE DEG 00116

What type of berth should I get for my boat?

There are three main types of berths: a pontoon, buoy or swing type.

Pontoon berths have a floating platform that you can walk on either connected to the shore or anchored to poles in the water. These are the most expensive and most desirable types. Once you have docked your boat on a pontoon, it will remain in the same position and location.

Buoy moorings are always positioned in water, and they are two buoys a certain distance apart to which you can fasten the bow and stern of your ship. These moorings are less costly than pontoon moorings because there is no footwalk and you must take a small boat to them.

A swing berth is one single float that you tie your boat's bow to, allowing it to drift with the currents and tides. Your cheapest option will always be a swing berth, but you will need to make the most checks, as your boat may come loose as it moves and crash into any nearby boats if you haven't left enough room.

Our advice is always go for a pontoon berth if you can afford it, for safety and convenience.

    Frequently Asked Questions

I'm a first time buyer or seller and I'm not sure what to look for. Can you help?

Yes! Our experienced sales staff are on hand to help guide you through the process of what’s right for you. Check out our Buyers and Sellers Guide for all the best advice when it comes to buying or selling a boat for the first time.

What are the running costs of owning a boat?

The running costs of owning a boat include:

    • Insurance – Either third party or fully comprehensive.
    • Licence
    • Boat Safety Certificate – required every 4 years.
    • Maintenance services
    • Diesel or petrol
    • Engine Service – Usually every 250 hours or annually.
    • Pump out fees - If boat has a pump out toilet. Elsan points for cassette toilets are usually free.

One thing to keep in mind; the longer the boat, the more expensive many of the running costs will be.

    Should I book a survey?

It is always advisable to get a survey done when buying your boat to determine its condition. There are three types of survey:

    • Full Survey – A comprehensive check of the structure of the boat and the internal condition and working status of all the appliances on board.
    • Hull Survey – An external survey only to check the condition of the hull.
    • Internal Survey – Determines the internal condition and working status of the appliances on board.

What's the best way to berth my boat?

We recommend pontoon berthing over all other options, because it is the safest and the most convenient. Pontoon berths provide easy access to your boat and prevent it from moving around as much as a buoy or swing berth, although it is the most expensive option.
